PART A: THEORY
UNIT 1: COMMUNICATION 
Communication and Communications, Features of Communication, Essential Components of Communication, Barriers of Communication, Types of Communication , Essential Elements of Effective Communication

UNIT 2: READING AND REMEDIAL GRAMMAR USAGE
Developing Reading Skills, Skimming – Scanning – Reading for information structure. Remedial Grammar: Time and Tense – Transformation of Sentences, Relative Clauses, Language, Function: Reporting, Suggesting, Agreeing, Defining, Purpose, Instruction, Prohibition

UNIT 3 : PREPARATION FOR WRITING
Understanding the writing assignment: topic, purpose ,reader, scope and constraints. Analyzing the content, determining the scope of topic, Audience analysis for entry behavior. Collecting information for the assignment

UNIT 4:WRITING PARAGRAPHS
Identifying Paragraphs. Essentials of effective coherent paragraphs.Use of appropriate linkers in paragraphs.Developing notes into a paragraph.Identifying and Writing Topic Sentences and Supporting Sentences.Recognising different types of paragraph organisation.Use of appropriate tenses, voices and linkers in paraqgraphs.Writing different types of paragraphs : Process description, Comprison and contrast, Cause and Effect ,Problem Solution

UNIT 5: COMPREHENSION OF TECHNICAL TEXTS_MANUALS,INSTRUCTIONS  e.t.c.
Recognising important information in written texts, Note taking with the use of abbreviations, charts, diagrams  and Symbols. Interpreting with visuals and illustrating with visuals like tables, charts and graphs

UNIT 6: LISTENING 
Importance of Active Listening . Functions of Active Listening .Techniques for ensuring Active Listening

UNIT 7: PUBLIC SPEAKING
Planning for the speech. Designing the speech .Deliver the speech .Evaluate the speech

UNIT 8: PRESENTATION 
Rationale of Presentation.Types of Presentation .Planning of Presentation.Guidelines for use of visual aids.Practice of Presentation on relevant topics.

PART B: PRACTICALS 
1.Suggested activities:  Students may be encouraged to look up books and websites to get an idea about frequently asked questions and finding out appropriate answers to these questions. 
2.Mock group discussions are to be conducted for students in the presence of teachers and industry experts and these discussions are to be evaluated by peers, teachers and experts 
3.Organising and participating in Mock interviews by peers, teachers and also experts from the industry .
4.Students are to be given an exposure to sample Job Interviews and Group Discussions from videos, CDs, DVDs, websites etc.
